The best way to protect yourself is to keep your identity safe. Never give out your full name, mailing address, name of your school or other information that may help someone to find you. Do not meet with people you have met online. People are not always who they say they are. Always remember that your in a public forum and anything you say can be read by anyone who enters that forum, also if there is something you do not agree with or makes you feel uncomfortable remember that you have the right to leave that site. Do not respond to inappropriate, violent or sexual related e-mails, chat comments or instant messages. Going over internet ground rules with your parents and knowing there expectations and your limitations on the internet can help keep you safe.
