Criminal lawyers can either be a prosecutor or a defense attorney.
The tasks of a criminal lawyer include:

  • Researching laws to either protect a client or prosecute a criminal.
  • Meeting with witnesses and collecting evidence to support their side of the case.
  • Preparing for upcoming cases
  • Going to the courtroom to present their case

Lawyers are generally in an office. Sometimes they will have to go to hospitals, homes etc. to meet with clients or witnesses. Lawyers spend a lot of time reading, writing and preparing information. They usually work about 9 hours a day. Overtime is very common.

Criminal lawyers have to be able to put up with a lot of pressure, they have to be quick and witty in the courtrooms. Being charismatic is usually a common trait. Being able to talk to people one on one and public speaking is a large part of the job as well.
